Yay, it's my bday. I'm 21, yay me.
The update went up with no problemos. Not much progress on page 20 though. Not enough to even post a sneak peek (unless you want to see my page layout..) cause all my sketches so far are in blue pencil.
Ah right, I discovered the joys of blue pencil earlier this week when I was doing page 19. This way I don't have to erase my figure doodles when I draw the real pictures. The only problem is that the blue pencil is so light, I have to press pretty hard and it leaves dents in the paper. Oh well..
Anyway..I started figuring out how to redesign the comic pages, so that may be looking good sometime soon. Not today though. Lots of madness planned for today. Lasertag, dinner, cake and drinks. And my friend's bday is tomorrow, so there should be even more madness forthcoming.
Well, I have a whole week to the next update day, right. At least I'm not on one of the grinds! Haha!
(the Daily Grind / the Lazy Grind)
Welcome to the DaviManga blog. This is where I--Milla Lindqvist, aka Talvikki, or a host of other names--the creator of DaviManga and its comics, spout off about the comic..my creative process..my life..or anything. Instead of putting all that nonsense on the home page as "updates," I moved it here. So that knowing anyone reading it must be interested anyway, I can write as much as I like. Huzzah.

This close to quiting Blarger..
This site has been giving me hell all afternoon. Posts not showing up, not letting me log in..If it weren't for the fact that I'm too lazy to do all the set-up all over again on a different site, I'd have left Blogger's ass by now.
Hm. I guess the blarg is not G-rated :p
Anyway, I was going to make the big announcement that I finished page 19 and scheduled it as an automated update for Friday, and that was supposed to be exciting because I've never been so on top of things with this comic in living memory. It's probably because things have pretty much ended with a certain someone and so I've just been at home working on my comic for a week.
I did look for a job yesterday..at one store, the comics store in the mall near my house. They weren't hiring. So I guess I have to go work at Borders. Yay for giving in to the evil corporations. At least it's not Starbucks.
I also have to start working on my thesis eventually. Maybe I'll start today. Keep myself busy. I thought I was over him, but since coming home and having to see him, I'm a wreck again. (That "terrible relationship experience"? Yeah, it got better for a while, and then I messed up..several times..and lost the love of my life.) Oh well. I just have to keep doing things and maybe someday I'll be happy again.

Aloha
It is my blarg. Welcome. Soon I'll transfer all my old ramblings here for safekeeping...and all new musings about how RL keeps getting in the way of my comic will also go here. And, I will make it look more like the rest of the site. I guess.

This is what I was doing Friday when you all wish I had been working on page 18 and 19. This is Antasha, a character who shows up later. I felt kind of bummed about the comic, like I was just slapping together pages to get them done, and I wasn't happy about that, so I thought I'd better play around for a bit to get some creativity and fun back into it. So I did some concept sketches of the Davi and some characters. So now I must needs add an art page to my site, so that you all won't feel left out of all the sketchy madness.
And in hopes of fan art XD I asked Ulrich for Crossovers fanart for my birthday, but she said she would do yaoi fanart of these (sadly neglected) guys instead. O.o
And well I did manage to get page 18 up today. Page 19 is all sketched up and page 20 is plotted, but I'm holding off on those as I want to try and build up a buffer. Because as we all know, real life is not kind to my comic.
Well, I still have to bake star tarts for my family, so I'd better get going. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it, a belated happy Winter Solstice to all the pagans out there and joyous December to most everyone else!

The homepage of the new site is ready! It even works on two different browsers. Ah the joys of CSS. I guess I'm just going to have to convert my readers to Firefox and Opera..
To be fair to my dear readers, I think I'll try to finish a comic page or two before I keep working on the site. Kinda alternate between the two. If I can find the motivation :p I love doing webdesign--well of course I love my comic too, just that I don't draw as much as I should and so I have to work pretty hard at it to make it nice. Oh well. Maybe I can do something about that this spring..
Anyway, so how about an update schedule! Something this comic hasn't seen in a while. I used to do Fridays, so let's give it a try..look for a new page tomorrow!

Well, I did put something up on 110mb (and if my mom knew she'd kill me..) It's nothing fancy, the main point of looking at it may be to see the sketch for the new graphic. That caught your attention, right?
Madly writing my seminar paper. I decided to stay on another semester and write an honors thesis then, but I won't be taking any classes..and my two exams next week will be pretty easy..so once I turn in this paper on Monday, I'm done! Then I can finally make some nice things for y'alls to look at.
Oh, and the tagboard seems to have fallen off the edge of the world again. But I don't have time to fix it now..I'll take care of it when I do the site revamp.

Haha! Screem is so convenient. I might never have to type a close bracket again. :D
Now if it would just include the slash automatically. And insert breakline tags automatically. And...
Anyways..a belated Happy Thanksgiving, to those who celebrate it, and speedy writing to those participating in NaNoWriMo (I'm not. stupid thesis.), and to everyone else..enjoy your last few days of November! (And if you don't use the Gregorian calender..then I don't know what to tell you.)
Well, my dad and I had Thanksgiving dinner, and I made *two* pies (but I don't get to brag about making pumpkin pie from scratch this year, cause the stores were all out of pumpkins :( ). And then I signed up for a site on 110mb.com. See, you knew comic stuff was going to show up sooner or later :p Well, according to their regulations I'm supposed to have a "functioning homepage" within 15 days. My thesis is also due in 15 days! I don't know how this is going to work out :(
Well, I guess I can throw something up there. As if I wasn't spending enough time procrastinating on Project Gutenberg Distributed Proofreaders. Well, I work best under pressure anyway. Um, or, I only work under pressure. heh.
So, keep an eye out for the new site within the next two weeks....
Oh yeah, and just in case you didn't notice, I'm on hiatus. My undergraduate thesis. But it will be over soon..I hope.

First of all, I am so sorry about those terrible popups. Things didn't used to be like this, believe me. Anyway, the site is moving to 110mb.com (totally AD FREE) next week. Their registration is closed for updates now, otherwise the site would be moving right now! As it is, you'll just have to bear with me until then (I don't think people are urgently checking this site anyway :p)During that week's wait I'll probably get the site redesign done. Yes, I'm doing at over, again. I learned about the wonders of CSS recently, and want to clean up my site. (Though it's pretty clean already. A very simple table, some pictures and text. Worry not, I can simplify further. I will amaze you all with the presentation I can put on with the barest html.....)
And now, the part you are all waiting for--where's the next page, and what's that doodle up there? That, my friends, is a half-finished panel from the page 18 that I began in June. Yes, page 18, in the works. Yes, IN JUNE. What happened between then and the page appearing on ComicGen, you might ask? Well, two summer classes and a full-time job is what happened. Lame excuse, I know. I was also trying to get used to speaking English again and getting over a really terrible relationship experience, if that helps.
Anyway, so I'm back at school now, playing with the website again, and if you're lucky, there'll be an unmarkered sketchy page by the end of this week. Unmarkered because I forgot my marker paper at home, and don't even know where it is, actually. Possibly

Or I can keep procrastinating until I set off for China again, where I have no time to work on a comic, and a language pledge that prohibits me from using English to boot...
Which is pretty much what happened.
I did have this idea to make some comics in Chinese which I might or might not be allowed to provide translations for, but I never thought of a story, so that never got off the ground. I did start writing a short story in Chinese, but it was not comic material.
Anyway, so I spent the semester studying in Harbin in northeastern China, as well as visiting some other places (photos here!). At first, I was so bummed about not being able to read or write in English or communicate with my friends or bf that I just studied a lot to try and get rid of my depression. Then I realized that the workload was so humongous that I really did need to study 24/7 just to get close to getting everything done (I think this is because I always had tons of reading. Reading for literature class, reading for newspaper class, reading for my one-on-one research project class...and consulting the dictionary every other word in the beginning...) Then I made some friends and started this bad habit of not studying and staying up till 4 in the morning chatting. And then during finals week I hardly slept at all and did badly on my oral, but the continuous party (and the sound sleep on the train to Beijing, lol) more than made up for it.
So that's what I was doing instead of working on my comic. Now I'm home, taking two classes at GU this summer and starting work next week. Work will be a doozy if I have to go in to the office every day, as it is ~2 hours away from my house by bus and train and bus again. That time could be put to use for comic drawing if it weren't for the constraints of rush hour public transportation; as it is, considering what my work will be (translation) I doubt I'll even want to read by the end of the day...
That pretty much leaves weekends and late evenings for the comic. And class time, of course! I always find I'm most inspired and motivated when I'm in class, for some reason. I've theorized before that it has something to do with the forced idleness of my hands and mind. Any other time I could find something else to do (and usually do), but when I'm stuck in class, with only half my brain occupied by what the teacher is saying, there are few things I can do to occupy the other half, asides from writing or drawing. Ironically, this kind of distraction helps me pay attention, as it keeps my mind from wandering too far or from just shutting down altogether and going to sleep.
So, teachers, please don't take offense! If you see me drawing, it's not because I find your class boring--quite the contrary, I love it and so want to make sure I stay awake! Just like I have to listen to music when I study (or paint, for that matter), I have to keep my mind occupied in class as well; I just get distracted too easily!
Well, with all that said, it seems like there is hope that some comic pages will finally make it onto paper and eventually onto the web. As long as my linguistics class is not too enthralling, lol.

Um, yeah.
Then this uber-difficult class called Fiction and Film killed my free time...er, what little free time was left after I spent most of it bumming around in the dorm with my friends ^_^ Constructive use of time all right....It's just that I hadn't had a weekend in two years, and so I had no idea what to do with them!! Hence, I didn't do much. Including working on the comic :\ Didn't even look at the site for the last few months...then I come back to see that the tagboard has died. *tear*
Now I'm back stateside, and knee deep in more Chinese fiction...going through it with a dictionary and collecting confusing bits to ask my friends or teachers about...and kind of procrastinating on the comic, Star Wars rpg, contacting my friends, and all kinds of other good stuff. ATM I'm obsessing about a *censored*, and then the next thing on my list is to hit up Eastern Market for some things to send to my flatmates back in HK, and maybe after that I can start thinking about my comic again.
Send me hate mail, I need some motivation here!!
